MY KOPERASI YEARS

From 1984 to 1987 , I became the Hoklian Koperasi finance(Koperasi Jasa Raykat) Branch Manager at Jln Taib, Pontian. I was the Secretary of the Youth Section of Hokkien Association Pontian and also the State Hokkien Liason Committee. I worked very closely with the Youth Leader Mr Ka Boon Seng, a successful second hand car dealer. We would organise a lot of activities and run all over Pontian and Johor campagning for koperasi membership drive.

I was married in 1984 and at the end of 1987, I had three kids, one son and two daughters. The koperasi finance business had to cease when the government freezed all nationwide koperasi activities in 1987. 1987 was also the year of the economic storm which affected the South-east Asian countries. Economy was slowdown greatly. I was thrown out of job and had to hunt for job high and low. Finally, through a friend's recommendation, I saw myself landed in the retail line, taking the post of supervisor at Parkson Grand Departmental Store in Holiday Plaza, Johor Bahru.That was in November,1987.
The job in Parkson would took away yet another of my seven golden years, before I resigned finally in 1994.

PCM YEARS

Ten years in PCM , from 1973 to 1983, was a long time in fact. Somewhere in late 1981, I was transferred from the QC department to Production department. That was the critical years for PCM, the Middle East War affected the canned pineapple market greatly and the rising costs of the two main ingredients in canning, tin and sugar caused PCM to operate in negative profits! I thrown in my very best to enhance on the quality while reducing the production cost . One of the measures I took was to use the minimum number of boilers .running during lunch and friday prayers. I still remembered that was also the year I became involved actively in Hokken Association in my home town in Pontian . I was the youth wing secretary and subsequently the State Liason Committee Secretary. The Hokkien Leaders in Klang wanted to form the very first Koperasi finance in Pontian. I became very involved in the Koperasi membership drive. I resigned from PCM in 1983 to become the Hocklian finance branch Manager in Pontian.
That leads to my next part of story, the Koperasi finance years in Pontian........

COMING A LONG WAY!

Today, I consider myself as successful in terms of income and the fact that I control my own time as compare to my previous jobs working for people where to a great extent time and money control
me! I even have time now to contribute to the independent type Pei Chun Secondary School in my
home town Pontian and handling the important and meaningful post of Treasurer.
Before I go further into my present things, I would like to go back to my past i.e. begining from
my Form Six in Johor Bahru in 1971.

From my resume, you can see that I spent 10 years in Pineapple Canning Industry in Pekan Nenas, Johor; 2 years in Ko-op finance, 20 years in retailing industry! 3 years in advertising
business-one year working for people and 2 years now on my own! It has been a loooong and
winding road!But the good thing about me is, I never regret what I have not done or what I
have done! 'cos life is actually a non-stop learning process. My strong conviction is as long as
you work and think hard, finally you'll find your way!
